Discussion Starter · #1 · Sep 7, 2013. I just swapped the original 3 speed manual trans back into my 64 Fairlane. Its a 5 bolt 289. I used the original flywheel, bellhousing, and starter locator plate. My problem is with the starter grinding; sometimes it grinds when it starts sometimes it just grinds without turning over the engine.
